QWP leaves KP govt, hurls corruption allegations at PTI

* Sherpao says Imran Khan was interfering in works of ‘our ministers encouraging illegal appointments in their ministries’

* QWP to sit on opp benches

Staff Report

PESHAWAR: The Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Thursday quit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and charged former coalition partner Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf with encouraging “illegal appointments”, a day after Imran Khan announced his party was pulling out of its coalition with Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao-led QWP.

“PTI chief Chairman Imran Khan was interfering in the works of our ministers and encouraging illegal appointments in their ministries,” QWP provincial president, Sikander Sherpao Khan told a news conference while explaining what went wrong between the two coalition partners. Sikander went on to add: “This interference led to breakup of the coalition partnership in the provincial government.”

The QWP provincial chief also spelled out the future course of action of his party, saying it would play the opposition’s role for, what he called, welfare of the Pakhtuns and development of the province. Sikander stated the QWP was not seeking ministries or seats on the government benches. “The QWP has never run after ministries, but others, including the PTI, came after us with offer of ministries. We honoured its mandate and joined the coalition for the sake of the soil.”

The young politician from Charsadda District tried to use a recommendation letter from the PTI chief, seeking appointment of a professional as head of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Oil and Gas Company Limited, to make a case of corruption. He said the letter was sent to him by Imran Khan. “I turned it down as it was violation of merit in my opinion,” Sikander said while showing the letter, which he later shared with the media. “We have many such things to produce before media. The two ministers - Ibrar Hussain and Bakht Baidar - will share with media their own evidences to prove PTI’s involvement in corrupt practices.”
