Provinces gave LB polls dates in court sans consultation: Justice Jilani

ISLAMABAD: Acting Chief Election Commissioner, Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani on Tuesday said that the provinces gave the dates for holding local bodies elections in the court without consultation and added that all the organizations were bound to obey the orders of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Geo News reported.

Addressing the ECP meeting here, Acting CEC said that the ECP was going to hold LB elections for the first time in the history of the country for which the preparations on the part of provinces were not complete.

Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani further said that all the organizations of the federation and provinces were bound to assist ECP under Article 220. He said that the contempt of court notice was issued to the defence secretary for failing to hold LB elections in Cantonment Board areas and the copies of the decision in the case have been distributed among the chief secretaries.

Acting CEC said that the Supreme Court has approved the LB polls dates in Sindh on January 18, while in Punjab on January 30.
