PM contacts Khurshid Shah for CEC appointment
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has contacted opposition leader in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah for the appointment of chief election commissioner (CEC).
Media reports said Prime Minister Nawaz had telephoned the opposition leader before his visit to Sri Lanka and asked for a meeting with him for consultation on the appointment of CEC.
Replying to the premier, Khurshid Shah stated that as per the constitution, Nawaz first has to send names in writing to the leader of opposition, and if he (opposition leader) has reservations over those names, he will propose names of his own.
Sources said the prime minister would send the names to the opposition leader after his return to the country and after that a meeting of both leaders would be held for consultations. Sources said both the sides are searching for well-reputed candidates for the appointment on this important post. online
