US assures no drone strikes during Taliban talks: Aziz
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs and National Security, Sartaj Aziz said Wednesday that the US has assured Pakistan of not conducting any drone strikes during talks with the Taliban.
During the meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Aziz said that the US had been informed that talks with the Taliban had been hampered after Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in the drone strike. Aziz added that Pakistan had informed the US not to attack the Taliban during the dialogue process.
According to the foreign affairs advisor there were no talks with the Taliban being held at the moment.
Aziz also cautioned about the withdrawal of US and NATO forces from Afghanistan in 2014 and prayed that the country would not be plagued by war. He further said that if there was a war in Afghanistan post withdrawal, Pakistan would be flooded with refugees.
