PPPP suspends basic membership of its MPA

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians has suspended the basic membership of one of its MPAs from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for publishing advertisements in newspapers purportedly asking people to block NATO supply routes, in violation of party policy.

The show-cause notice, which has been signed by PPPP Additional Secretary General Senator Raza Rabbani, asks MPA Fakhr-e-Azam from PF-71 to explain within seven days as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for “grave violation of party discipline” which also resulted in confusion in the party about its policy. It said that the party policy enunciated at a meeting held on November 3 in Karachi clearly stated that while the party condemns drone strikes, any decision with regard to NATO supply routes rests with the federal government and no provincial government had the authority to take any decision in this regard.

However, despite this clear policy MPA Fakhr-e-Azam placed ads in newspapers calling upon people to block NATO supply routes. The show-cause notice states that these ads had led to a wholly erroneous impression that the call to block NATO supply routes comes from the party’s leadership and is in accordance with the party policy. “In spite of clear enunciation of party policy you called upon the people to block NATO supply routes which is not only a grave violation of the party policy but also resulted in creating confusion about thought-out and declared party policy and amounts to misconduct,” the show-cause notice reads.
