LHC seeks details of Pakistanis released from Bagram
Staff Report
LAHORE: Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday directed the Interior Ministry to provide information until November 25 about the whereabouts and state of six Pakistani citizens released from Bagram Theatre Internment Camp Afghanistan by the US authorities. The judge had earlier ordered the federal government to inform whether these Pakistani had been released or not. The counsel for the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that all six detainees had been released by the US authorities and they had been handed over to the Pakistani authorities on Saturday (November 16). He said the Foreign Ministry could only confirm detainees’ repatriation and their present status and whereabouts was a matter related to the Interior Ministry.
The counsel for the detainees, Maryam Haq, claimed that local authorities had held the released Pakistanis since November 16. She said that the relatives of these detainees were not allowed to meet them which had increased their sufferings.
She said that the government’s acknowledgment of release and repatriation of these six Pakistanis had been a cause of relief, but no cause to celebrate. She said that they should be released from detention of local authorities. The six released detainees are Hamidullah Khan, Sabeel Suleman, Abdul Qadir Imran, Muhammad Riaz, Abdul Karim and Palak Jan.
