By Amar Guriro

KARACHI: US Ambassador Richard Olson praised the good work Pakistani alumni of US exchange programmes and said that they are doing great in their communities throughout Sindh and Balochistan.

“The work you do is making a real difference in peoples’ lives. From workshops on conflict resolution, seminars on violence-free societies, career counselling sessions, and workshops on women empowerment, you are creating positive change in Pakistan and influencing society for the good of all,” said Ambassador Olson.

He was addressing the reunion organised by Pakistan-US Alumni Network (PUAN) and US Consulate General in Karachi on Saturday.

More than 600 alumni of different programmes of US exchange including Fulbright Scholars and Hubert H Humphrey fellowship, Global Undergraduate Programme (UGRAD), Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) and Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship (FLTA), International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP) and alumni of various East-West Centre alumni attended the reunion. Many former students came from remote areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

Established in 2008, Pakistan-US Alumni Network currently consists of 13,000 graduates of US exchange and English language programmes in eight different regions of the country.

With 11 active chapters nationwide, the Pakistan alumni network is one of the most active US exchange alumni groups in the world. Saturday’s reunion also included remarks from Consul General Michael Dodman and PUAN leadership, as well as substantive presentations and social activities.
