Cases of heinous crimes can be tried in other provinces: PM


KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed concerned authorities to immediately implement Protection of Pakistan Ordinance (PPO) to deal with heinous crimes and offenders in the city.

During a meeting to review law and order, Prime Minister Sharif directed law enforcement agencies and the Sindh Government to shift criminals accused of heinous crimes including terrorists to other provinces for trials. Addressing the meeting, the prime minister observed that restoration of peace in Karachi was of vital importance as it was the economic hub of the country.

“The Karachi operation will continue till fulfillment of its objectives. I stand by police and rangers and they should treat criminals as criminals and must not care about the criminals’ affiliations.”

The prime minister directed that all illegal SIMs be blocked immediately and new SIMs issued after biometric verification.

Prime Minister Shairf was briefed by DG Rangers on the targeted operation in Karachi. The prime minister was informed that a request had been sent to Chief Justice Sindh High Court for the formation of new anti-terrorism courts and appointment of judges.

The prime minister was also briefed by the Sindh Home Secretary. During the briefing, the Home Secretary said 41 proxy prisoners had been identified in jails across with the province through the NADRA record.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah assured the meeting that an inquiry would be conducted on the issue.

The Prime Minister emphasized that high value and hardened criminals should be tried in other provinces and mafias inside jails be dismantled.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was briefed that since September this year a total of 63,475 raids and 455 encounters took place, while 74 target killers and terrorists were arrested.

The meeting was attended by Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Chief Secretary Sindh, Director General Rangers, Inspector General of Police Sindh and other senior government officers.
