NAB moves against its own chief
Staff Report
ISLAMBAD: The acting chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has tasked NAB DG (Operations) Zahir Shah with overseeing two inquiries involving the NAB chief.
According to official details released on Tuesday, NAB received the certified copy of Supreme Court (SC) judgement on NICL case on November 25. However, the notification appointing NAB Deputy Chairman Saeed Ahmad Sargana as acting chairman of the authority during the absence of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry has not been received yet.
However, since the chairman, before proceeding on leave, had authorised the deputy chairman to act on his behalf, the deputy chairman has decided to exercise his powers without further delay to proceed on the SC judgement, according to official details. “While proceeding on leave, the NAB chairman had issued only one instruction to the deputy chairman while authorising him to act as chairman. The instruction was that the deputy chairman should exercise his powers as fairly and transparently as possible, particularly while investigating the cases which involve the chairman himself.” The acting chairman decided that the person selected to oversee the inquiry should have had no opportunity of interaction with the NAB chairman prior to his appointment in the bureau, according to official details.
