Missing Persons: SC expresses displeasure over IGFC’s absence

KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan expressed its displeasure over the IGFC’s failure to appear before the court despite being summoned.

A four member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the missing persons case at the Karachi registry on Friday. During proceedings, Chief Justice Chaudhry asked the Deputy Attorney General who the contempt of court notice should be issued to after the IGFC had failed to appear.

The Deputy Attorney General informed the court that they had tried to send the court’s order to the IGFC but there wasn’t enough time. Chief Justice Chaudhry remarked to the Deputy Attorney General that the missing persons would have to be presented before the court.

Justice Khilji Arif inquired why accused FC officials along with Brigadier Aurangzeb, Subedar Momin, Major Tahir and Colonel Naeem were not presented before the court. The Deputy Attorney General replied that it was the FC’s stance that these officials had returned to the Army. Chief Justice Chaudhry remarked that if they were part of the army, the headquarters should be told to present them.

The court has ordered the FC officials to appear before DIG CID on Sunday.
