Kayani confident new COAS will lead army to further progress
RAWALPINDI: The outgoing army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani passing his command stick to his successor, expressed satisfaction that the military successfully tackled manifold challenges under his leadership.
“Today’s day and this ceremony are remarkable for me. While saying goodbye to the army it is an occasion of great satisfaction for me that I’m leaving the army discharging my duties honorably, It was an honour for me to serve Pakistan Army,” General Kayani said while addressing a ceremony held for a formal change of command.
General Kayani was accorded guard of honour before he handed General Raheel Sharif a command stick that symbolizes the transfer of control of Pakistan Army.
“I’m happy and satisfied that I always sought the divine help and strove for the best, for this I’m thankful to Allah, the jawans and officers who cooperated with me.”
“When I took the charge as army chief I faced various challenges, for which we made efforts and paid attention and finally succeeded. Today we are primed for any internal and external challenge. During my tenure I preferred the interest of Pakistan army in all my decisions,” Kayani said.
“We not only faced internal and external challenges with the help of almighty Allah, but also met the expectations of the nation in testing times… The army played its role to forge peace in the country, I play tribute to all the martyrs who laid down their lives for this country and to the army jawans who rendered unprecedented sacrifices. Today, the nation pays tribute to the soldiers who served as bulwark against all challenges at every nook and corner of this country.”
“I’m also thankful to the nation for its support which spurred our resolve… We are talented and a brave nation and I’m confident that no hindrance can stop us from becoming a stronger and prosper nation. But for this, we must play our role with unity and harmony, we should resolve the prevailing crisis and face the testing times.. Pakistan is everlasting, the army is guarantee to its safeguard and our future is bright….” the outgoing army chief said.
He hoped that the new Chief of Army Staff would lead the army to further progress. “I’m confident that in the leadership of General Raheel Sharif the army will gain more progress. I pray may he discharge his duties effectively.”
“Even after the retirement my heart and soul will remain attached with the nation,” the army chief concluded.
