People-to-people contacts termed vital for Sino-Pak ties

ISLAMABAD: Pak China Parliamentary Friendship Group on Thursday strongly underlined the importance of parliamentary relations and people to people contacts between the people of Pakistan and China, stressing these are the two key factors in strengthening affairs between the two nations. They also reiterated the need for enhanced cooperation in agriculture, irrigation, energy, railways, infrastructure development, economy, sports, culture, tourism and educational sectors. Members of both the groups expressed these commitments during a meeting in a Parliament House under the jointly chaired by convener Pak China Parliamentary Friendship in the National Assembly Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan and Vice Chairman of the China Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group of the National People’s Congress (NPC).Cong Bin. While welcoming the Chinese delegation, Rana said we were very keen to add more value, depth and substance to our bilateral relations through increased cooperation, interaction and strong partnerships at all levels. He said the visit of Chinese delegation would certainly go a long way in common and constant endeavour to augment the bond of friendship and cooperation that binds the two countries. “Enhanced cooperation between our parliaments is very essential to bring people closer and strengthen our bilateral ties,” he added. He said the present Pakistani political hierarchy envisioned a qualitative transformation in its relation with China for building a broad based, substantive and long term partnership encompassing all areas of mutual cooperation. Cong Bin also underscored the need for enhanced cooperation between NPC and National Assembly of Pakistan and observed that the cooperation between two institutions was on a very positive trajectory. He thanked the convener and other members of the Friendship Group for the warm welcome. He said China and Pakistan enjoyed a long time friendship and were good partners and brothers. He expressed special gratitude for the support on China’s core interests. He also highlighted the importance of Pak-China economic corridor which would contribute to further expending economic and trade cooperation. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Secretary General NPC Wang Jinliang, Iftikarud Din, Syed Ghazi Gulab Jamal, Bismillah Khan, Alhaj Sha Jee Gul Afrisdi, Tahir Iqbal Ch, Imran Zafar Leghari, Ayesha Raza Farooq, Nighat Paeveen Mir, Khalida Mansoor, Asiya Tanoli, Leila Khan, Asifa Khalid Parvez, Iffat Liaqat, Shazia Ashfaq Mattu, Amra Khan, Shazia Fatima Khawaja, Shahida TRehmani, Marvi Memon and Sajida Begum.
