Sindh LG Act 2013 : PML-N, Functional League to challenge amendments

KARACHI: Both the PML-N and Functional League have announced to file a petition against the amendments in Sindh Local Government Act 2013 and new delimitations in the province. Talking to media persons on Friday, parliamentary leader of the PML-N in Sindh Assembly, Irfanullah Marwat blamed that opposition parties were not taken into confidence over amendments in LG ordinance, which was issued by the PPP government in consultation with its allies. He said recent amendments in the ordinance have obstructed the participation of independent candidates in the local bodies election, which was against the Pakistan’s Constitution. Marwat said such injustice had not been witnessed in general elections and the decision will be challenged in court.

Meanwhile, Nusrat Sehar Abbasi, MPA from the PML-F said new delimitations by the provincial government were equal to pre-poll rigging. “These amendments are not acceptable and we will file a petition against this decision,” she said.

Opposition parties including the PTI have assured their support in this regard. “Consultation over delimitations and amendments in LG ordinance are underway and the PTI will support the opposition in this regard,” he said. inp
