Quarrels, mismanagement visible in certain districts
LAHORE/KARACHI: Polling has ended in 20 districts of Sindh and Punjab. In many areas long lines were visible when voting starting at 7:30AM on Saturday while in many larger city’s including Lahore voter enthusiasm appeared laid-back.
In certain districts voting began with some delay, reports of mismanagement were received from Khairpur, Shikarpur and Ghotki where polling did not begin as scheduled due to late arrival of the polling staff. Besides late arrival of the staff at some stations ballots were also unavailable.
In Lahore’s Johar town UC115 a quarrel erupted between female voters of PTI and PMLN over who will vote first. Voters from opposing parties also fought in Vehrai’s peoples colony. In UC185 and UC231 voting was suspended due to misprinting of electoral symbols to PMLN voters. In Faisalabad violence left three people injured
Quarrels were reported in Sindh as well where polling was suspended at Ali Nawazpur polling station in Jacobabad where as a result of a quarrel vehicles were also damaged.
Police, Rangers and Army personnel were also deployed at sensitive polling stations where they remained until the end of polling. A public holiday is being observed in all districts where elections took place, with section-144 being enforced and a strict ban on display of weapons remains in place.
Kasur
Three people sustained injuries in a clash between two groups at ward 20 in Kasur. Police have arrested four accused.
Polling was suspended for two hours at ward 7 of UC 1 after clash between polling agents and the candidates. Polling resumed after Rangers were deployed.
Lahore
Police have arrested six people for carrying arms in different parts of Lahore.
Gujrat
Police resorted to baton-charge at Gujrat university polling station after violence. The independent candidate snatched ballot papers from the returning officer.
Jacobabad
Three people were wounded in violence at Ali Nawaz Panhwar polling station in Jacobabad.
