Pakistan to go with peacekeeping missions: army chief

RAWALPINDI – Pakistan is committed to meet emerging challenges of the UN peacekeeping operations, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif said on Friday.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) here, General Sharif met the Pakistan Army’s contingent deployed under the UN flag in Ivory Coast.

He lauded the professionalism and commitment of the soldiers in bringing stability and promoting peace for a secure world. He also acknowledged the sacrifices rendered by the troops.

“Pakistan is proud of its historic, current role as major troops’ contributor and takes it as an obligation to participate in international peace and security,” the statement quoted the army chief as saying.

General Sharif said that Pakistan’s troops were currently serving in six UN peacekeeping missions despite the ongoing Zarb-e-Azb military operation and other intelligence-based operations.
