Nawaz, Ghani discuss resumption of peace process

PARIS - Pakistan wants cordial relations based on bilateral cooperation with Afghanistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Monday here in the French capital.

Talking to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on the sidelines of the UN Climate Conference, the prime minster said Pakistan was committed to work with Afghanistan as an equal and sovereign state.

The two leaders agreed to increase economic and trade cooperation, which is an area of shared interest between both the countries. They also discussed resumption of peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.

Peace and stability in Afghanistan is the key goal and Pakistan is committed to build a long term partnership with its neighbours. A stable Afghanistan is in the best interest of the entire region,” Nawaz said.

He vowed to work with Afghanistan to improve regional economic connectivity. “We are ready to take concrete steps to improve these links for the benefit of the two countries,” he said.

He also briefed the Afghan leader about the ongoing Zarb-e-Azb military operation against all terrorists in Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, Ghani said Afghanistan also wanted to develop peaceful, friendly, and cooperative relations with Pakistan.
