Kashmiris waiting for implementation of Security Council resolutions: Lodhi

NEW YORK: Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi said on Wednesday that it was not possible to maintain durable peace in South Asia until and unless the Kashmir problem was resolved and claimed that the people of occupied Kashmir were waiting for the implementation of the Security Council resolutions.

Addressing the representatives of member states, Lodhi said that Pakistan wanted resolution of the Kashmir issue according to the will of the people of Kashmir. She said that peace and resolution should be sought based on international resolutions on the issue of occupied Kashmir.

"The people of Kashmir are overwhelmed by the passion for independence and determined for their right to self-determination," she said.

She said that Pakistan rejected and condemned the religious discrimination that was taking place in Indian occupied Kashmir. Lodhi said that the people of occupied Kashmir wanted liberation from the Indians and that Indian barbarism was adversely affecting their right to self-determination.

"The Kashmiri people have been awaiting the implementation of Security Council resolutions," she stated.
