Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar granted bail in 2 more cases
KARACHI: The Mayor Karachi, Waseem Akhtar has been granted bail in two more cases against a surety bond worth Rs100,000 each.
The bail was granted to Karachi Mayor by Anti-Terrorism Court on Saturday.
A total of 39 cases including May 12 riots and facilitating hate speech were filed against Waseem Akhtar.
The court has already granted him bail in 36 cases and after today’s bail only one case pertaining to providing medical assistance terrorists is left after which the mayor will be released from prison.
An ATC on Thursday granted bail to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan leader in four cases pertaining to May 12, 2007 tragedy.
Waseem Akhtar was arrested on July 19 on suspicion of sheltering and providing medical treatment to alleged militants and criminals. He also faces charges of inciting riots.
He was elected the mayor of Karachi in August and has been running his office from jail.
Akhtar stated in the court that police had registered two cases of every incident against him.
