SC rejects PTI's appeal in NA-110 case against Khawaja Asif
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan rejected PTI's appeal in the NA-110 election rigging case on Thursday.
According to details, the appeal was filed against PML-N's candidate and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif by PTI's Usman Dar. The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the election tribunal, which had decided in favour of Khawaja Asif. Usman Dar had challenged the decision of the election tribunal in the Supreme Court.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali conducted the proceedings of the case.
Speaking to media personnel, Khawaja Asif's attorney Farooq H Naek stated that Khawaja Asif was still an MNA from NA-110 and that allegations could not be proven in the reports of the Election Commission and NADRA. Naek said that he had stated during the proceedings that some people were constantly trying to unnecessarily pressurise the courts.
Khawaja Asif reacted to the news by thanking the Almighty and claimed that the Supreme Court had upheld the decision of the people of Sialkot.
"The prayers of the people of Sialkot were always with me," he said.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) accepted the verdict issued by the Supreme Court with regard to NA-110 rigging case.
"We accept the decision of the Supreme Court," said PTI spokesperson Naeem-ul-Haque.
Naeem said that the case had proven to be successful in exposing the weaknesses in the electoral process. He said that PTI would take the government to account for destroying public institutions.
He said that Khawaja Asif had been successful in rendering evidence ineffective with the help of the administration.
