43 killed, scores injured in Shah Noorani blast: Rescue official

HUB: An official of rescue service said that 43 people were killed and over 100 injured in a blast at Shah Noorani shrine in Balochistan, 200 kms from Karachi.

Hakeem Lasi of Edhi foundation said that some ambulances have reached the spot and dead bodies and injured persons are being shifted to hospitals in Lasbela, Khuzdar and Karachi as there are no medical facilities available in this mountainous area.

According to sources, women and children are among the victims in the explosion that took place during a ‘dhamal’ around Maghrib prayers.

Balochistan Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti confirmed the incident and said the government has expedited the rescue operations.

The shrine of Sakhi Shah Bilal Noorani is visited by thousands of devotees, mostly from Balochistan and Karachi.

Unavailability of communication services in this far flung region is hampering the rescue work.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the incident and loss of innocent lives, he also directed the authorities to ensure speedy rescue operations.

No group has accepted the responsibility so far of the blast but Balochistan province has been hit by audacious terror attacks in the past few months.

Meanwhile, Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has strongly condemned the incident and said the entire nation has to be united to fight the cancer of terrorism.
