Bilawal urges world leaders to discourage intolerance

KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that tolerance was diminishing from human society as narratives based on hatred and discrimination are being consumed by more and more people in the world.

In his message on the International Day for Tolerance being observed under the aegis of United Nations, the PPP Chairman said that tolerance was the key to foundation of any peaceful society based on merit, equality and human brotherhood. However, it is unfortunate that tolerance is not being promoted the way it should be in many parts of the world.

He said that Pakistan People’s Party has held the policy of tolerance towards its opponents and tormenters as its hallmark. Our slogan “Democracy is the best revenge” depicts our commitment to the nation as well as the world that PPP has never preferred personal vendetta over the collective democratic rights of the people with tolerance being the basic ingredient of a vibrant and strong democracy, he added.

Bilawal Bhutto said that unchecked promotion of intolerance, intentional and unintentional fanning of bigotry and prejudice among different school of thoughts, regions, people and societies has to be discouraged by the world leaders to make human living on earth peaceful.

He said that PPP was the living and unblemished example of tolerance, which lost its giant leaders like elected Prime Ministers Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and thousands of its workers and Jiyalas in the struggle for the rights of downtrodden masses of the country but we preferred “Democracy is the best revenge” instead of avenging murders of our martyrs.

Bilawal Bhutto pledged to continue the policy of tolerance in our struggle for an egalitarian Pakistan based on the teachings and vision of our founding fathers.
