Turkish President Erdogan arrives in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday arrived in Pakistan on a two-day visit. The Turkish leader was accorded warm welcome at the Noor Khan Airbase where Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his younger brother Shahbaz Sharif and top officials of the foreign office received him.

Erdogan is visiting Pakistan on the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart and is due to address joint sitting of the country's parliament for the third time on Thursday. He was given a guard of honor by a contingent of Pakistan army.

Pakistan's Foreign Office said President Erdogan is being accompanied by a high level entourage including ministers and senior officials besides a large delegation of businessmen.

The Turkish president would hold separate meetings with President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

President Mamnoon Hussain would host a banquet in honour of the guest and his entourage and later Erdogan will also travel to Lahore where Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would host a banquet at the Shahi Fort.

Reuters add: Before his departure from Ankara, Erdogan praised Pakistan's actions against what his government calls the Gulenist Terror Organisation (FETO).

"Pakistan's decision to have people linked to FETO leave the country by Nov. 20 is very pleasing," Erdogan said.

"Just like Turkey, Pakistan is carrying out a relentless fight against terror. Turkey supports Pakistan’s battle until the end."

Erdogan will arrive in Pakistan on Wednesday and address its parliament on Thursday.

Turkey and Pakistan have traditionally had close ties, which have warmed further under the leadership of Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
