Did not receive the security a mayor is entitled to: Waseem Akhtar

KARACHI: Mayor of Karachi, Waseem Akhtar, said that he had not received the security that a mayor was entitled to yet he had faith in the Almighty regarding his protection, on Thursday.

Speaking to media personnel, Waseem Akhtar was visibly pleased after being kept in prison for more than 100 days before his bail plea was accepted.

"It feels good to be home," said Waseem Akhtar.

He said that he had not received the security a mayor was entitled to but he had faith in God. Waseem Akhtar said that he could protect himself.

In response to a question about the clash between MQM-Pakistan workers and MQM-London loyalists on Wednesday at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada, Akhtar said that the Rabita Committee had decided to pay their respects and that his party did not want any clash.

Waseem said that he would work with all parties regarding the welfare of the city and stated that he would speak with the Sindh government regarding his limited powers as the mayor of Karachi.
