Opposition stresses to review Pakistan’s foreign policy

ISLAMABAD: The opposition parties have criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s policy on the Indian atrocities amid the prevailing situation at the Line of Control (LoC) – which is reaching ‘boiling point’.

The opposition maintained – in the National Assembly’s session on Friday with Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi in the chair – that the prime minister’s policies should be reviewed – keeping in view the changes taking place in the region.

Discussions began on a motion moved by the Minister for Law and Justice, Zahid Hamid, regarding situation arising out of the Indian aggression on the LoC.

Member National Assembly (MNA) Naeema Kishwar Khan said that India has started an ‘unannounced war’ on the LoC which should be globally condemned and that a durable peace in South Asia is impossible without the resolution of Kashmir issue.

Another MNA, Shaikh Salahuddin, urged the need for revisiting the foreign policy and suggested the prime minister to take up the matter with his Indian counterpart to erode the situation.

MNA Ghaus Bakhsh Mahar criticised the Indian government for failing to suppress the Kashmiri’s struggle by force and resorted to unprovoked firing on the LoC to divert the world’s attention

MNA Qaisar Ahmad Shaikh suggested that a ‘Kashmir desk’ should be established in the Pakistani embassies across the globe to highlight the Kashmir issue while Muhammad Kamal recommended a more solid strategy to befittingly respond to the Indian aggression.

MNA Tahira Aurangzeb stated that there should be no political ‘point scoring’ on the issue and only one message from the parliament should be sent out to that ‘India should immediately stop the atrocities and barbarism in Occupied Kashmir’.

Several MNAs suggested the protest – regarding the Indian aggression at the LoC – should be lodged with the UN under the ceasefire treaty’s violations while Riazul Haqsaid that the diplomatic efforts should be accelerated to expose India for its crimes against humanity.

Shazra Mansab Ali said that being part of the prime minister’s envoy on Kashmir to US, she was handed over dossiers on human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir by Indian forces.

MNA Ayaz Soomro stressed for tit-for-tat response to the Indian aggression on LoC and that the Indian atrocities in Occupied Kashmir should be highlighted internationally.

He said that the government has failed on Kashmir and that the foreign policy lacks the push without a Foreign minister as the officers have been – allegedly – appointed on recommendation.
