Pakistani furniture has potential to capture world market: AQ Khan

LAHORE: Nuclear Scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan on Saturday said that Pakistan handmade furniture products had potential to capture world market with excellent modern designing.

He urged the businessmen to work extensively to promote local industry in Pakistan. "Pakistan is blessed with abundant resources and our people are equipped with the best of skills that can help develop the country on modern lines,” he added.

Dr AQ Khan during his visit to a three-day the 6th Interiors Pakistan mega exhibition at Expo Centre here as a guest of honour lauded the amazing work of younger designers and architectures displaying in the exhibition along with other national and international leading furniture manufacturing companies. Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) Chief Mian Kashif Ashfaq was also present.

The (PFC) organised its 6th Interiors Pakistan exhibition to create a space for furniture display and its promotion across the country. Talking to the media, Dr Qadeer said that the youth should utilise their abilities to make country prosperous as the youth was a real hope. He said that young and talented Pakistani entrepreneurs could play a significant role in putting the country on the path of development besides help strengthening national economy.

Appreciating PFC Chief Mian Kashif Ashfaq for organising exhibitions, he said that this Interiors Pakistan was a platform for recognition, where successful young entrepreneurs from across the country were invited to showcase their business achievements before business community, representatives from industry, academia and other entrepreneurs.

On this occasion, PFC Chief said that the PFC was committed to supporting Pakistan's young entrepreneurs associated with furniture and interior designing sector whose innovative thinking had the potential to unlock great economic prosperity. He said that such exhibitions provide the younger designers and architects to assess market trends and display their own work alongside that of more established professionals.

He said that the Pakistan furniture industry had a great future and, “We predict that the increased exposure through Interiors Pakistan will highlight the skill and talent in the country in future too.” He said that Interior's Pakistan was a step towards initiating international trade exhibitions and also to enhance possibility to participate in international exhibitions as a collaborative industry from Pakistan.

Pakistani craftsmen had skill to create exquisite bespoke pieces but standardising that production to meet the requirements of international markets required input from the Pakistan Furniture Council, he said.

Important exhibitors including Interwood CEO Maliks Farooq, Charag Din and Sons CEO Shahbaz Aslam, Diamond Group Muddassar Shafi, Mohkam Furniture CEO Maqbool Elahi, National Furniture CEO Rizwan Ahmed and PFC General Manager Hamid Mahmood were also present.
