Pakistan blocked Nato supplies for security: Haqqani

WASHINGTON: Pakistani envoy in US Hussain Haqqani has said Saturday Pak-Afghan Tor Khum border has been closed temporarily on security grounds, adding that it will be re-open soon after security situation improves in the area, Geo News reported.

After improvement in security for Nato convoys, Pak-Afghan border, Tor Khum, will be made operational again and Nato-led forces’ supplies through the border will be restored, Haqqani told a US television.

He said authorities were bound to close the Pak-Afghan borer and blockage of Nato supplies had became indispensable after Nato copters violated Pakistani airspace and bombed security officials at a checkpost.

Government officials closed down Nato supplies for fear of public reaction, he maintained, adding a fierce public reaction or a turbulence could possibly emerge against convoys of Nato supplies, leading to serious security mishaps.

Supplies will be reopen right after Pakistan government would be in a position to provide foolproof security to supplies’ convoys, he maintained.
