Sustainability of democratic process only solution for all challenges: PM


ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday reiterated that the policy of reconciliation has shown positive results in the recent devastating floods since all political parties and parliamentarians cooperated with the government in its efforts of relief and rescue of the flood affected. Sustainability of the democratic process is the only solution for all challenges confronting the country, the Prime Minister said while talking to a group of parliamentarians who called on him here at his chamber in Parliament House today.

He further added that consensus building on major national issues and the unanimous passage of resolutions in the Parliament is the dividend of democracy. He urged all parliamentarians to work for the strengthening of democracy.
The Prime Minister asked the parliamentarians to focus on relief work in their constituencies and urged them to prioritize development schemes in their respective areas and rationalize their cost.
He asked all of them to remain vigilant and play their due role during the upcoming rehabilitation and reconstruction phase.
The Prime Minister asked Parliamentarians to assist the flood affected who were staying in school and college buildings and have started shifting to tent cities due to begining of the academic session.
The provision of food, warm clothes, safe drinking water and medicine to them was an uphill task which demands full support of all Parliamentarians, he added.
The Parliamentarians apprised the Prime Minister of the development projects in their respective areas.
Those who met the Prime Minister included Minister for Special Initiatives Lal Muhammad Khan, MNAs Mrs. Farkhanda Amjad, Ch. Anwar Ali Cheema, Sher Mohammad Baloch, Abdul Qadir Patel, Malik Azmat, Tariq Tarrar, Javed Warraich and Senators Mrs. Kalsoom Parveen and Ms. Raheela Baloch.
