White House expresses condolences over Pakistani soldier’s deaths
WASHINGTON, Oct 5 (APP): The United States on Monday conveyed its condolence to Pakistan over the deaths of Pakistani soldiers in a cross-border NATO helicopter attack last week, with the hope that the border would be re-opened for the supplies to Afghanistan. “We have expressed our condolences for what happened several days ago in Pakistan with ISAF and their forces. And we’re working through the border closing right now,” White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs said in response to a question at the regular briefing.
Reacting to the incident, Pakistan blocked one of the supply routes for NATO troops in Afghanistan after the strike killed three Pakistani soldiers in the Kurram region.
“We obviously, we are in discussions and working with the government of Pakistan to address the concerns relating to the closure of the border there. We believe we are close to yielding—close to producing some results on that and may have more on that in the future,” he said.
Pressed as to when fuel supplies would resume, Gibbs only said, “We’re working government to government.”
