Pak-India reaffirm resolve to fight terror


ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior, Senator A. Rehman Malik and his Indian counterpart reaffirmed their resolve to fight against terrorism and share information to address the menace effectively.

Interior Minister A. Rehman Malik made a phone call to Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram and discussed progress in the trial of Mumbai attack case in Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Interior informed Indian Home Minister that the court in Pakistan has desired that subject to the consent of Indian authorities, the Commission may visit India to testify the Magistrate who recorded the statement of Ajmal Kasab, the Investigating Officer and post mortem report.

The Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram promised to look into it and will respond soon.

The Interior Ministry has already sent the request as per the desire of the Court to India through Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both the Ministers for Interior showed satisfaction on the present cooperation between Pakistan and India to assist each other in issues of mutual concern.

It was also agreed that the last dossier received from India on some issues is under examination and shall be responded to in due course of time.

The Minister for Interior congratulated his Indian counterpart on holding of Commonwealth games and wished him good luck. He assured him the commitment of government of Pakistan to help and assist India in safeguarding the security of the Commonwealth games and told him that any real time intelligence shared will be taken seriously and acted upon.

The contact between both the Ministers is being widely appreciated by the diplomatic and political circles.
