People are with the PPP, says Zardari
KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday said that people were with the Pakistan People’s Party and they knew what is good and what is bad.
Talking to reporters at the Bilawal House, the president said he would advise the government to extend support to Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s family in filing an appeal against her sentence. “We can support her family on humanitarian grounds for filing the appeal which is legally possible,” Zardari said, adding the government had provided legal aid to the Dr Aafia during her trial in the American court.
The president said the present government, during its two and a half year tenure, had provided Balochistan as much as it had not received in the last 60 years. In an exclusive interview with a national magazine, president dismissed rumours about change as a negative campaign by vested interests. He said right-wing elements were trying to destabilise the government. “There is a challenge by the rightist forces to democracy” as it does not suit them, Zardari said. He said PPP and other political powers cannot afford to be dictated by any institution, individual or a class of media. He emphasised that the army was part of the government. Responding to a question about former president Pervez Musharraf, he said he had the right to take part in politics. app
