Strong differences with US over drone attacks: FO

* Spokesman says NATO supply to resume in ‘due course of time’

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Thursday said there is difference of opinion between Pakistan and the US on the issue of drone attacks and the US leadership has been told that these are counterproductive.

Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said, “We do have strong differences with US on drone attacks.” Pakistan hopes that Washington would revisit its position regarding them. Replying to a question, he said, Pakistan had no agreement with the US over drone attacks and they could not be justified. On the issue of reopening NATO supply route to Afghanistan, the spokesman said authorities were evaluating the security situation and supply will be resumed in “due course of time”. He said the US and NATO forces had assured that Pakistan’s border would not be violated in future.

On the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, the spokesman said it had to be resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions and the aspirations of Kashmiris. He said third ministerial meeting of Friends of Democratic Pakistan would be held in Brussels on October 15 and it will discuss early recovery projects for the flood-affected areas besides considering reconstruction plans. app
