Politicians should not play into hands of anti-democratic forces
* President says ‘some forces’ prodding politicians for anti-government propaganda
* PPP ready to foil attempts of anti-democratic forces
NAWABSHAH: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday called upon the politicians engaging in negative propaganda against the present democratic government not to play into the hands of anti-democratic forces.
“The anti-democratic forces do not want to see democracy flourish. They do not want people of all provinces to get their basic rights,” the president said while addressing a gathering on the occasion of the inauguration and foundation stone-laying ceremonies of various development projects of Shaheed Benazirabad district on Monday.
The president said that only those politicians were criticising the democratic government who wanted to enhance their political stature, however, he vowed to continue his struggle for strengthening democracy and providing all due rights to the people of the country. “The workers and leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) are ready to challenge and foil the attempts of such anti-democratic tactics,” he said.
“There are some forces, who are guiding some politicians to launch propaganda against the present government as they fear that the PPP, which has been struggling to achieve the required goals of progress and prosperity, will retain power in the next general elections after completing its current tenure. After that they will have no chance to enter the corridors of power in the future,” he said, adding that these forces were working against the democratic government as they did not want it to strive for the welfare of the masses and strengthening of the country.
Zardari said that the people were the real power of the country, and whenever they had a chance, from Kashmir to Karachi, they always elected the PPP to govern.
“The PPP always comes into power with the support of the masses, even when the elections are conducted by opponents who never desire to see this party in power,” he said, adding that the PPP was a “strong wall” against those who did not want the masses to share power.
He said the country and the PPP suffered losses whenever dictators or undemocratic forces grabbed the country’s reigns. app
