NAB submits report in SC on implementation of NRO verdict
* Report states 150 cases reopened since NRO declared void

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau on Tuesday submitted a report in the Supreme Court regarding the steps it took for implementation of the NRO verdict.
According to the report, 150 cases had been reopened since the NRO was declared void ab initio by the apex court in its December 16, 2009 verdict. The report contains the status of the NRO cases within and outside the country and also responses of the questions raised by the court on the last hearing held on September 27.
The report also contains detail of the NRO beneficiaries who had been appointed on key positions even after the NRO was declared null and void. These beneficiaries included former OGDCL managing director Adnan Khawaja and former FIA deputy director Ahmad Riaz Sheikh who was made additional director general of FIA (Economic Crimes Wing).
Meanwhile, a 17-member larger bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will take up today (Wednesday) the government’s review petition against the NRO verdict and a suo motu notice to review implementation of the NRO judgement.
Besides others, Law Secretary Masood Chishti, Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq, Establishment Division Secretary Abdul Rauf Chaudhry, the NAB prosecutor general and FIA director general will also appear before the court on notice.
On the last hearing, the court had directed the attorney general and NAB chairman to submit a complete report on the Swiss accounts of President Asif Ali Zardari, besides providing details of the people who had benefited from the NRO and their cases were pending in foreign courts.
