PPP’s public projects upset PML-N: Taseer

* Governor says PML-N has appointed Rana Sanaullah as ‘loudspeaker’

LAHORE: Every public project launched by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) pinches the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer said on Wednesday.

Speaking in a Business Plus programme, the Punjab governor said that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif’s Qarz Utaro Mulk Sanwaro scheme was a huge scandal but its record had not been exposed, adding that Nawaz’s government even ended due to the same charge sheet.

On a case filed by PML-N leader Zafar Ali Shah against former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf for toppling Nawaz’s government, he said the Supreme Court had given a collective verdict in 2000 that Nawaz’s corruption and inability had damaged the country.

Taseer said the PPP had done a favour to the PML-N by forgetting the cases against former premier Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari, otherwise the party would have faced the music.

To a question, the Punjab governor said if Nawaz was in debt even after owning apartments in London, property worth billions in Raiwind, besides sugar mills and factories, then how can he run a country after being proved a “bad manager”. He said the PML-N, while forming government in Punjab, was involved in horse-trading, adding that political talks were the beauty of politics. The governor said the PML-N had appointed Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah as a “loudspeaker”. He added that “Rana Fugitive” alias Rana Maqbool had been appointed prosecution secretary. He also alleged that Rana Maqbool and Major Mushtaq had connections with terrorists.

To a question, Taseer said the government did not want to remove anyone, adding that the public would decide after five years who should stay. To another question, he said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif got pictures taken and news published much more than he actually worked. He said whenever Shahbaz felt pain, he started beating his chest and talking about long march.

He questioned if Nawaz sympathised with flood affectees, what was he doing in London, adding that the PML-N leader had not made any remarkable achievements for the flood victims. The governor said aid provided by the Red Cross Society was being distributed among flood victims after putting up pictures of the Sharif brothers on the boxes.

To a question, Taseer said the Sharif brothers were the biggest beneficiaries of the NRO as they had run to Saudi Arabia, adding that their agreement was “mother of the NRO”. business plus report
