Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life for democracy
ISLAMABAD, Oct 17 (APP): Former Primer Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s courageous decision to return home on October 18, 2007 was for the cause of restoration of democracy in the country through free and fair elections. She was well aware of the threats to her life but at the same time she knew her presence in the country was iterative to lead political movement for revival of democracy.
She took this risky and difficult decision for facing two major challenges of terrorism and fragile economy.
“Her basic demand was of holding free and fair elections for facing these two challenges through elected and representative government of people.”
Her decision of returning home was precarious and she knew of dangers in future but at the same time Benazir Bhutto wanted to reinvigorate progressive and liberal forces for the restoration of democracy.
Hundreds of thousands gathered at Karachi airport to pay homage to charismatic Benazir Bhutto on her struggle against dictatorship.
“Benazir was a hope of change for the poor and her assassination on December 27 was great loss of the country, shattering dreams of millions of people”.
Passage of 18th constitutional amendment, consensus of NFC and Balochistan package were great achievement of the government.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will continue to win hearts and minds of people in coming times if the party’s leadership sticks to philosophy of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
