PPP will not let MQM leave coalition: Kaira

* Minister says govt, MQM, ANP preparing comprehensive plan to unmask elements behind target killings in Karachi

LALAMUSA: Information and Broadcasting Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Sunday that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will not let the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leave the coalition government, as it believes in reconciling all differences through dialogue.

Talking to various delegations at his residence, he said the PPP would continue to follow, in letter and spirit, the reconciliation policy as envisioned by former premier Benazir Bhutto and implemented by President Asif Ali Zardari to steer the country out of all its problems.

The minister said the government, in collaboration with the MQM and Awami National Party had been preparing a comprehensive plan to unmask the elements behind the target killing in Karachi. The people of Karachi were equally patriotic and peace-loving as other Pakistanis, he added.

The minister said the PPP-led government gets grieved at the spilling of even a single drop of blood in the biggest city of Pakistan, and its most important business hub.

On the government-judiciary relations, Kaira said the masses had rejected the disinformation campaign against the government, launched by some elements. He said some conspirators wanted to achieve their vested interests by creating an environment for the clash of institutions in the country. He added that the PPP would foil the nefarious designs to weaken the democracy and institutions in Pakistan.

The minister said a committee had been constituted to look into the “false and baseless news of withdrawal of the executive orders of the restoration of judges”. He said the committee would also pinpoint the elements behind the news item, adding that people would soon find the facts. “It is beyond human comprehension that why a mountain was made of a mole hill after the categorical rebuttal of the concocted news by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani,” said Kaira.

He said the PPP was committed to strengthening of institutions to resolve the problems of the masses, adding that the PPP takes pride in addressing the grievances of the people.

The minister said the PPP-led coalition government would complete its constitutional term by all means.

Kaira said the PPP had not come to power through backdoor maneouvers, rather by fulfilling all constitutional procedures. app
