‘EU market access will boost Pak trade’

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday said that the government was vigorously pursuing the progress that had recently been made in the EU foreign ministers meeting for the grant of market access to Pakistani goods into the European trade markets.

He was talking to the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Chairman Ejaz Gohar, who called on him at the Presidency. Zardari expressed the hope that it would boost Pakistan’s economy and would address unemployment.

He urged the business community of the country to add more value to the manufactured goods for optimum utilisation of the trade concessions that will be offered by the European Union. Federal Minister for Textile and Industry Rana Muhammad Farooq Saeen Khan was also present during the meeting.

The president, while appreciating the EU for agreeing to grant trade concessions, said it will help Pakistan’s economy recover from immense stress caused by the unprecedented floods across the country. “We have also stressed the US government for the early legislation on the establishment of ROZs to help Pakistan revive the hard-hit economy and create employment opportunities in war and flood affected areas,” Zardari said.

Gohar apprised the president about the steps being taken by the textile industry to boost Pakistan’s exports.
