Shahbaz for broader mechanism to restore peace in Karachi
* CM says recent killings aimed at destabilising country
* Says democratic forces gave sacrifices to get rid of dictatorship
MARDAN: Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday stressed on the need for adaptation of a broader mechanism to restore and maintain peace in Karachi.
He expressed these views during his visit to Mardan to condole with the senior PML-N leader Saranjaam Khan over the sad demise of his son. He was accompanied by opposition leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, former Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique and other party leaders.
The chief minister remained there for sometime and offered fateha for the departed soul. He prayed to God to grant courage to members of the bereaved family to bear the loss with patience and fortitude. Later on, talking to reporters, shahbaz said that PML-N had always strove hard for the supremacy of law, parliament and the constitution, adding that their politics is based on principles.
Shahbaz said if all the institutions worked within their constitutional limits then the system would deliver democracy and institutions would be strengthened. He said democratic forces had rendered great sacrifices to get rid of dictatorship and it is high time to join hands for the socioeconomic emancipation of downtrodden masses. Expressing shock over the recent target killings in Karachi, he said that the recent killings in the city were aimed at destabilising the country.
He urged all the political forces to rise above party politics by joining hands for restoration of permanent peace in the portcity. He said that everybody, whether they were Punjabi, Pakhtoons, Sindhi, Baloch or Mohajir, was playing active role for progress and betterment of the economy of Pakistan, adding that stability and peace is vital in Karachi for progress and prosperity of the country. He underscored the need for chalking out a comprehensive mechanism to restore lasting peace in the Shehr-e-Quaid. He said that criticism of media should be openly tolerated. app
