All Punjab government projects have failed: Taseer
* Governor says PPP government and governor not going anywhere
LAHORE: Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer on Saturday said that all projects of the Punjab government had failed.
Addressing a big gathering after inaugurating Kot Abdul Malik interchange, he said the Punjab rulers had launched the ‘Sasti Roti Scheme’ for cheap publicity while billions of rupees had been wasted away on the Food Stamp Scheme.
Now they have started Danish School System, which will also be stopped soon, the governor said, adding that he had suggested to the Punjab government to renovate and reconstruct schools in the backward areas instead.
“I am Awami governor and this leadership is the belongings of Benazir Bhutto. We understand what the poverty is and poverty is our enemy. We are launching Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in Sheikhupura on November 15 to help the poor,” he said.
The governor said the PPP government had restored the 1973 constitution in its original form and the passage of the 18 Amendment was also an achievement. “The PPP is the sign of federation and always remains one entity,” he said.
Taseer dispelled the impression that the PPP government would fall. “Neither the government nor the governor is going anywhere and we will complete our tenure and Inshallah we will come to power again after the next general elections,” he said.
The governor said the government took care of three million IDPs, gave them shelter and rehabilitated them in a short time.
He said the government was burning midnight oil to rescue and settle the flood victims back to their houses before winter season set in. “We will not leave them in lurch,” he said.
Later, PPP ticket holder Ghayyur Bukhari and Senator Faisal Raza Abidi also addressed the gathering. Earlier, the governor also inaugurated Sui gas supply at Kalalwala.
