Tory party criticised for not attending Islamic Conference
LONDON, Oct 26 (APP)- The ruling Conservative Party has been criticised for not attending an event that advocated tackling extremism and building bridges between the communities. The party chairperson Baroness Sayeeda Warsi was banned by Prime Minister David Cameron from attending the Global Peace and Unity Conference held on Sunday in East London.Representatives from both Liberal-Democrats and Labour Party turned out at the largely attended event. But the Prime Minister issued the order because the coalition parties are arguing over the best way to deal with extremism. But Advisor to Global Peace Unity Foundation Sir Iqbal Sacranie said there was no reason to walk out.
He told local media : “The conference brought together people from across the country and many countries from Europe as well both Muslims and non-Muslims. The key objective was to show the strength of coalition government working together for the common good of the society. So it was to promote dialogue and engagement.”
