All political forces will be taken onboard: Gilani

* PM says contacts with ‘Q’ won’t affect ties with ‘N’

* Action will be taken against NRO beneficiaries without discrimination

MULTAN/LAHORE: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said he believes in politics of reconciliation and despite difference of opinion, all political forces would be taken onboard, a private TV channel reported on Thursday.

Talking to journalists after inaugurating the Gilani Law College at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, the premier vowed, “Many political forces have difference of opinion and even confront the government, but we will take them onboard in all our decisions,” adding that he wanted to take everybody along under his reconciliatory approach, the channel reported. He vowed to carry on the politics of reconciliation, adding that dialogue was the beauty of a democratic process that would be continued in the future as well.

Gilani said the meeting of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders with the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leadership would not affect the government’s relations with the PML-Nawaz. He said it was incorrect to assume that the aim of the meeting was to pressurise other political powers, adding that all political parties in parliament had given him the vote of confidence.

The PM dispelled the impression that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was distancing itself from the PPP government and said the meeting of representatives of different political parties had been held in Karachi a few days back, which was also attended by the MQM.

To a query about Nawaz’s statement on corruption in the government, he smiled and said Nawaz would have been talking about the Punjab government. Gilani said the present elected and democratic government would fulfil all the promises made with the masses, as it was duty-bound to address the problems of the country and the people.

“This is a people’s government. You have elected us and we are duty-bound to address the problems of the country and the people,” Gilani said while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Sweet Home’ project and the distribution of wheel chairs and cash assistance, organised by the Pakistan Baitul Maal. The PM said the government was fully aware of the problems such as unemployment, inflation, electricity shortage, adding, “But I assure the government will fulfil all promises made with the masses.”

He said the restoration of democracy was a big challenge, which had been achieved with the support and backing of the masses, adding that the democratic institutions, including parliament, were gaining strength.

He said the present government had fulfilled its promises of restoring the 1973 constitution, ensuring supremacy of parliament and giving enhanced provincial autonomy to provinces through the unanimous approval of 18th Amendment. To a question, the PM said action would be taken against beneficiary officers of the National Reconciliation Ordinance without discrimination. daily times monitor/app
