National reconciliation policy need of the hour: Nawaz
LAHORE: A national reconciliation policy is the need of the hour to tackle the challenges facing the country, a private TV channel quoted Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif as saying on Thursday.
Talking to reporters after expressing condolences with South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) Secretary General Imtiaz Alam and meeting with other office bearers at SAFMA, Nawaz said he advocated the idea of chalking out a 25-year agenda to save Pakistan, under which all institutions, including the army, would join hands to pull the country out of its crises and that “no one should try to present themselves as a sacred cow”.
He said that the unanimous strategy should be called the “Pakistan Charter”, adding that it would be for the betterment of the entire nation. “All political parties, army, judiciary, civil society and media should join hands for the Charter of Pakistan,” he stressed, adding that no one should consider the other any less. The PML-N chief said a strategy would be devised to forge a national consensus, stressing that it is essential to have unanimity of opinion on national issues.
Nawaz said all stakeholders would be included in the Pakistan Charter, ensuring full respect to the sovereignty of parliament and supremacy of the constitution, the channel reported. daily times monitor
