Pakistan, Afghanistan sign Transit Trade Agreement
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Afghanistan, on Thursday, signed the Pak-Afghan Transit Trade Agreement for boosting bilateral trade and exports. The agreement was inked by Pakistani Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim and Afghan Commerce Minister Anwarul Haq Ahadi in Kabul. Afghan President Hamid Karzai and US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke witnessed the signing ceremony. Makhdoom Amin Fahim called on President Karzai after signing of the agreement and discussed with him matters of mutual interest with special reference to strengthening of trade relations between the two countries. It is pertinent to mention here that the cabinets of the two countries had already approved the new trade agreement. Under the agreement, Afghanistan would be able to send its goods to India through Pakistan. Truck drivers and crew would be issued visas and would be allowed to enter Pakistan only after verification by a biometric system. app
