US to continue encouraging Indo-Pak dialogue

WASHINGTON: The United States will continue to back Pakistani-Indian dialogue towards the resolution of their tensions for improvement in relations between its two “very important” South Asian friends, the White House said, days ahead of President Barack Obama’s visit to India. A senior Obama administration official said the US leader looks forward to visiting Pakistan next year and that the United States has a “positive” and “deepening” partnership with Islamabad. The US had a “very successful dialogue” with a high-level Pakistani delegation in Washington last week. “We have always welcomed dialogue between India and Pakistan and certainly encouraged efforts to improve relations between those two very important countries,” Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns said while responding to a question whether President Obama would talk privately or publicly about the longstanding Kashmir dispute. app
