Not afraid of unification of Muslim Leagues: Gilani
Daily Times Monitor
LAHORE: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani is not afraid of the unification of the Muslim Leagues, as most of the members of the All Pakistan Muslim Leagues (APML) are his relatives, a private TV channel quoted him as saying on Friday.
Talking to the media after a ceremony in the Islamabad Convention Centre, the PM said that it was the opinion of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) if it considered him a weak premier.
He said that the opposition had the right to criticise, adding that it was not the trend to take the parliament into confidence before the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government. “But Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will take the parliament into confidence over the Pak-US Strategic Dialogue,” the channel quoted him as saying. Gilani said that the government would mull over the Pakistan Charter, when PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif would present it.
He said that reconciliation was the best policy, as the process was not only to stay in rule but had been vital to run the country as well.
Gilani said that the government had planned to overcome the energy crisis, adding that it would bring 1,704 megawatts (MW) in the system by the end of December. However, he said that no specific date could be given for ending loadshedding in the country, the channel reported. Also, he said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government would focus on giving economic relief to the poor people in its remaining term of two and a half years.
