Governor stresses peace in Karachi for rapid progress
KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan as stressed the need to ensure peace in Karachi and to restore the confidence of its traders.
Addressing a high-level meeting at the Governor House here on Saturday, he said Karachi is the economic jugular vein of the country and peace in the city is necessary for rapid progress and prosperity of the country.
The meeting was also attended by Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, provincial minister Abdul Haseeb, Seraj Qasim Teli of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Saeed Shafiq, Zubair Motiwala and office-bearers of Sher Shah Kabari Market association.
Dr Ibad said the terrorism activities in Karachi have shaken the confidence of its citizens. He said Karachiites feel them insecure. Therefore, it is the responsibility of government to take action against the criminal elements without any discrimination so as to restore the confidence of people.
He said by taking practical steps, a sense of safety and security could prevail amongst the traders, industrialists, investors, as well as, citizens. Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik said he regrets that he came late to meet the affecttees of Sher Shah Kabari Market carnage.
He said that he wanted to make sure solid steps are taken against thecriminal elements. He said the noose has been tightened around the culprits of Shah Kabari Market carnage, and one of the accused nominated in the FIR already been arrested.
The Sindh Governor assured the traders that all nominated accused would be arrested. He said to restore sense of safety amongst the Kabari Market traders, steps are being taken to depute police there on permanent basis, which would also enjoy support of rangers and other law enforcing agencies. He said we have almost solved the case and soon reveal all facts before the people.Malik thanked MQM chief Altaf Hussain for his support to maintain peace in Karachi. He said we would eliminate extortion culture from Karachi by taking decisive steps against extortion mafia.
He said stern action would be taken without considering political and personal interests. He said the noose is also being tightened around those involved in harassing and demanding extortion from traders and industrialists in Karachi.
In this regard he also gave special instructions to the CCPO Karachi. On the occasion, the affected traders of Sher Shah Kabari market demanded assurance from the federal interior minister. He assured them that security would be provided to them. He said the matter of payment of compensation to the bereaved families and injured would also be resolved soon.
