FIA told to present challan of Benazir murder case by November 13
RAWALPINDI: Anti Terrorist Court (ATC)-I Judge Malik Muhammad Akram Awan on Saturday took serious notice of the non-compliance by the Federal Investigation Agency(FIA) in presenting the challan of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination to the court despite the lapse of one and half years. The judge issued a final warning to the FIA that the challan must be presented in the court on the next hearing and adjourned the proceedings until November 13. The court also expressed concern over the absence of the prosecution lawyers and instructed them to ensure their presence on the next hearing. The FIA counsel told the court that there were some technical problems in preparing the challan of Benazir murder case. Earlier, police had presented a provisional challan of five accused, Aitzaz Shah, Rafaqat, Qari Rashid, Husnain and Sher Zaman, charging them for the assassination on the instruction of former Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander Baitullah Mehsood. The high profile case was first investigated by the Scotland Yard and then by the UN. After the report of United Nation came to surface, the federal government asked the FIA to once again look into the matter. But the FIA has not fulfilled the initial step of the case after lapse of one and half years. staff report
