Korea keen to help Pakistan towards bright future

* Consul General In Ki Lee says both countries share many similarities

KARACHI: Consul General (CG) of the Republic of Korea at Karachi, In Ki Lee last Saturday hosted a cake cutting ceremony to commemorate National Foundation Day of Korea, at a local hotel. Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro was the chief guest.

A large number of prominent personalities, social workers and politicians, including Sharmila Farooqui, Ishtiaq Baig and Tara Azra Dawood besides diplomats from Korea and other countries attended in the ceremony. Korean CG along with the chief guest and others cut the cake to mark the day.

Addressing the ceremony, Khuhro thanked the Korean CG and said that it was a great pleasure for him to attend the Korean National Day reception. He said that he appreciated the development of Korea.

Sharing his experience of visit to Korea, Khuhro said that he found Seoul as one of the most modern and environment friendly cities of the world. He said that Pakistan and particularly Sindh, look forward to Korea’s participation and cooperation in joint ventures.

Korean CG In Ki Lee in his address said, “The people and Republic of Korea will always stand by the Pakistani nation in their hour of need and trial”. He paid his compliments to the people and the Government of Pakistan for joining the Korean national day celebrations.

He said, “Both countries although far from each other on the map, share many similarities”, adding that many reputed Korean companies including Samsung, LG and Lotte were doing business in Pakistan.

On the occasion he said that Korea had become a prosperous nation by following and fully implementing its First Five-Year Plan, which began in 1953 and was prepared by Pakistani economists. “Korean people will never forget the humanitarian aid extended to them by the Pakistan people and government during the Korean War”, he added. He said that today Korea was the twelfth largest economy of the world with a trade volume of more $892 billion and exports and services worth more than one trillion dollars.

Lee said that Korea had donated goods worth millions of dollars for the flood-affected people of Sindh and his country wished Pakistan luck. The ceremony concluded with a scrumptious dinner having both Pakistani and Korean dishes on the table. staff report
