KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wassan has said that bills will soon be introduced in the Sindh Assembly to curb the menace of land grabbing and extortion.

"Government is striving hard to check and eliminate land mafia and Bhatta culture," he said on Friday while talking to the media after presiding a meeting at his office on law and order situation.

The meeting was attended by IGP Sindh Wajid Ali Khan Durrani and all DIGs of Karachi region.

He said action was being taken against the outlaws and those involved in cases of extortion and illegal occupation of land without any discrimination.

To a question about law and order, the Minister said that since the launching of joint operation by the Police and Rangers, the situation has improved significantly.

Referring to recruitments on political grounds, Wassan said that no recruitments were made by the present government on political basis.

He said all appointments or postings in Police Department will be scrutinised on merit without consideration of any political affiliation.

About the flood relief measures, the Minister pointed out that President Asif Ali Zardari was himself monitoring the whole situation and conducting video conferences in coordination with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and respective district governments to constantly monitor and provide relief to the flood affected.
