Stop cross-border attacks, Kayani tells Afghanistan

MANGLA: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Thursday issued a warning to Afghanistan to stop cross-border incursions in Pakistan.

Kayani asserted that no such activity would be tolerated and that Pakistan “possesses the capability to respond to any situation”.

General Kayani made this statement during his address at the Saudi joint military exercise programme in Mangla. The army chief and his Saudi counterpart were also present to monitor the exercises.

The army chief said the people of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia shared a deep and strong friendship. On the ongoing joint exercises General Kayani said the objective of the drill was to counter terrorism.

He said that military operations were not the ideal solution for every problem and that the global community was aware of this fact.

Kayani said that they had have done what had to be done in the war on terror and that it was now up to the civilian government to control the situation.

Talking to the media after witnessing the joint military exercises, Gen Kayani said that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had a very significant role in war on terror. He said an army operation in any area was done to improve law and order and that troops could not stay there permanently, adding that the Pakistan Army had prepared a strategy to avert any terrorist attack from Afghanistan.

To a question, he said that the Pakistan Army had achieved great successes against terrorists in Swat, Malakand and Waziristan. agencies
